Learning Outcome 2

I was able to demonstrate the second learning outcome throughout my multiple essays. Learning outcome 2 states that a student will be able to, “Integrate their ideas with those of others using summary, paraphrase, quotation, analysis, and synthesis of relevant sources.” I was able to provide an analysis in all my essays, supporting other’s ideas and work with quotes, summary, and paraphrases. Following the paragraph template in “They Say I Say”, I was able to build my paragraphs around my claims and sentences, throwing in a quote relevant to the paragraph. Having a template to look and follow when I was confused, helped me learn the important pieces that a paragraph requires. The chosen significant writing prompt I chose, has a lot of strong paragraphs in which I summarized and properly quoted and explained a writer’s work. The chosen prompt and quote example can be found below. I introduced the quote along with the author, and elaborated on what the author was saying in the sentence following the quote. I was able to connect the quote to my claim, which is the third sentence. I also made sure to include my own personal opinion, in which can be found at the end of my paragraphs connect both to my thesis and the quotes.

As mentioned by Southan, “Everything you do has something to do with art” (Southan 436). The ways that an individual can contribute to the world may not mean much, but Southan explains the importance that art really brings. If people were no longer able to express themselves through their work, creativity would be hidden and the meaning of art would be lost. I believe the power of self expression is a way to add balance and diversity to the world, and this idea is stated through art.
