Learning Outcome 1

My skills as both a student and a writer have improved tremendously since ENG 110. The revision process allows me to achieve learning outcome 1 which focuses on revision for the purposes of focusing on content, organization, and clarity of an essay. Practicing the revision process in class with every essay we had written, allowed me to take a new fresh look at my essay and revise where needed. This year, I focused on peer review a lot as well as reprinting my essay and highlighting my claims, points of focus, and quotes. This helped me a lot in structuring my essay and elaborating on important information. The paper I have selected as my chosen writing prompt is attached below. is art a waste of time essay- FINAL. In the revision process, I visited “They Say, I Say” in order to see examples of templates that are crucial in writing and help a writer elaborate and get the point across. This learning outcome focuses on our individual recursive process and how we tackle our papers for the second time. Nancy Sommers author of “Revision Strategies of Student Writers and Experienced Adult Writers”. elaborates on the revision process. She states that, “The student writers constantly struggle to bring their essays into congruence with a predefined meaning” (Sommers). I agree with her statement, as if students aren’t applying meaning and putting effort into realizing what makes a strong essay, they are missing out on the importance of the revision process. Throughout this year I realized I was looking at the little claims and pieces of information that needed improvement, instead of looking at my essay as a whole.
